Cold Call

January 4, 2012

What better way to start the year than with a nice little bit of animation?!?

I am often asked by people ‘how long does it take to make/complete an animation?‘ And I find it slightly frustrating, not because I don’t have an answer but because the answer I usually give never seems quite adequate enough and I am often rewarded with a blank face still expecting an answer.

I will clarify it. How long is a piece of string? There are so many variables.

It comes down to three things; Time (as in time available vs looming deadline) Money/Man power and Technique/quality. These determine more or less how long an animation (or anything else for that matter) will take.

The more people producing images, backgrounds and or colouring, etc means things will be quicker as they can all work in tandem. The more detailed or complex the drawings are or fluid the animation is the longer it will take as each individual image has to be drawn.

This animation should have taken a week to complete but ended up being spread out over a month and taking a little longer. Which is odd since there isn’t a lot going on or even any colour. The rough animation was done fairly quickly, and it was the cleaning up that took the longest.

…And Doodles For All

July 22, 2011

I never go anywhere without my sketch book, as a result I end up showing quite a lot of people my doodles…

(ahem)

The results are quite mixed. People are either enthusiastic about them or they just go silent.

I recently finished a sketch book, ending a 6 month era and it got me thinking. What am I going to do with all of these books that I have finished? Leave them in a dark corner gathering dust or show them to people? Would anyone even want to see them?

I figure if I put them online at least people have the option of seeing them and it’s always nice when someone gets a kick out of my work.

Thusly, I shall be posting new and old doodles since I have a fair amount of material from not too long ago that I think is worth sharing.

Here are two to start off with..

Vampire, Werewolf, Zombie

October 29, 2010

I just came up with a game, and  fits in nicely with the whole Halloween thing.

It’s called: Vampire, Werewolf, Zombie

It’s pretty simple, all you do is think of someone (can be a friend but a celebrity is better) and decide whether they’re a vampire, werewolf or zombie.

For example Arnie is a zombie because he hasn’t got the finesse to be a vampire, he’s not hairy or dextrous enough to be a wolf and you could easily picture him eating a person.

With some people it’s just not debatable. Michael Jackson for example is a Zombie, Christopher Walken is a Vampire and Glenn Danzig is a werewolf (mostly because he’s one in real life too).

Try it out!

Here are some ideas of people to start with…

Johnny Cash, William Shatner, Hulk Hogan, Robin Williams and Frank Sinatra.
