Hobbit Perfume Advert

May 6, 2015

Just a quick one because I don’t think this video needs much explanation. It requires a little though so I’ll write the article Buzzfeed style because I know you’re all busy ‘on the go’ types that don’t have time to read proper sentences.

1) So

2) I made this video as a parody

3) like, a joke, a piss take

4) of the Charlize Theron Dior adverts. Infact that’s where I got the audio from.

5) If you’ve seen The Hobbit: Battle of The Five Armies you’ll know what I’m talking about.

6) (insert appropriate gif here)

7) Just watch the video, I can’t even…

Time is the Key Ingredient

February 16, 2015

I have really been neglecting this blog, I feel like a bad parent. I know it’s there, I’m just not giving it the attention it deserves for whatever extraneous reasons.

You may remember (or you may not) the Lars Andersen: a new level of archery video that went viral towards the end of January.

Ben Green and I thought it would be a good idea and exercise to parody it.

Most videos that go viral have about a week where they’re being talked about and passed around the public arena. After that everyone moves onto the next one and ceases to care. Sometimes you’ll get a parody of the video a week after and people will start passing that about but beyond that I’m not sure if people revisit those things.

This issue means the video not only has to be made in a very short space of time but it also has a short shelf life (in theory). Additionally, in order for people to be made aware of the parody, the video would have to be shamelessly and intensely promoted online for it to be seen by anyone.

Unless of course the video is made by a big company with a large fan base and/or links to the press. By the time Ben and I got round to shooting our parody four days had passed and the original was on 16million views, I was working on a freelance job and so time wasn’t particularly on our side.

We both, came up with a bunch of ideas and gags from watching the video, combined them into a rough structure and spent half a day shooting things involving lacing shoes that we thought would be funny. In the evening, I only had a few hours to edit the thing and then record the narration which Ben wrote and I riffed on and I think that’s where it came together.

I don’t think you need to see the source material to enjoy our little video (but you should and it would help) and I also think it works outside the influence of its origins. I just wish I had, had time to promote the shit out of it on twitter, etc.

Japanese Doctor Who

August 14, 2014

I love the internet, one minute you can be looking for something the next you’re seeing something else you never would have expected to simply because that’s where the adventure has led you.

That’s exactly what happend about four years ago, little did I know where it would eventually lead me or what it would lead me to.

There’s a whole subculture of remixes, parodies and homages to horrible (and good) film rip offs and that’s ultimately where this video will end up, in that wonderfully bizarre corner of the internet. For the moment and as of writing this post it has enjoyed (as have I) 15 seconds of internet viral stardom.

I was going to write a nice little post going into more detail but Wired and Henshin Justice have already done such a wonderful job it’s just easier to link you to them instead.

The Star Wars That I Used to Know – Gotye Parody

June 29, 2012

This deserves a whole post of its own because it hits the nail on the head and took the words right out of my mouth.
I personally love it when Georgie boy does that shoulder rolling bit at 2.46.

Enjoy!

Don’t Give Me No Lip Shitface!

May 20, 2011

I’ve done another repanel (finally got round to finishing it).

It’s from Testicles the Tautologust (pronounced ‘testicleez’) by Jaxon (aka Jack Jackson). You can read the oringinal story HERE and highly recommend that you do. Also check out his other works too!

It’s a great Conan parody and I chose the panel where the old skool frazetta Conan mashes the face of the Marvel pretty boy conan.

Jaxons art work is fantastic. It’s gritty, raw and his characters often speak in a contemporary way regardless of where in time/space the story is set. That’s one of the main things I admire about his work because not only does it add a different kind of humour, it makes the story the much easier to relate due to the familiarity of language.

I kind of prefer the original to my version, mostly because more power is conveyed in the punch and the framing is a lot tighter. It’s still all good fun.

Street Fighter Collab

October 3, 2010

I feel old.

I’m not, I just feel like I am.

About a week or so ago we had a family friend and her son over for the weekend. I was about to go out and had let the son use my computer for facebook or whatever whilst I was getting ready. I walk past him and see he’s playing some browser based football game on facebook. I thought, if you’re going to waste time playing games at least play a good one, so I said:

Me: Do you want to play a real game?

Him: What game is it?

Me: Street Fighter 4.

Him: What is Street Fighter 4?

Me: You know? Street Fighter 4.

Him: No, what is Street Fighter 4?

Me: I don’t believe this, you must know Street Fighter!

Him: No I don’t! What is Street Fighter?!?!

Me:
It’s STREET FIGHTER! One of the greatest beat ’em ups EVER made!

Him:
Do you mean the game that came before Tekken?

Me: …. (sigh) yes, the game that came before Tekken.

Besides making me feel like an old man it got me thinking about a street fighter pardoy a friend of mine had found on newgrounds a while ago and had linked to me. I thought it was pretty funny and worth sharing.

It’s on newgrounds if you want to see it in better quality and also allows you to select individual sketches.

BEWARE: There are some odd ones, some of them are pretty dark…but on the whole it’s funny stuff.

Unpublished Entries

September 13, 2010

Here are two unpublished covered entries that didn’t fit submission criteria for one reason or other.

I’ve stuck the original covers next to the covers so you can compare.

Wolverine #1, Frank Miller

I gave wolverine his blue and yellow costume because that’s the one I grew up seeing him in most. I also wanted to make him look completely mad and psychopathic. I reckon I could do better. I also like the idea of him having thin claws rather than giant meat cleavers, it seems more likely he’d be able to store those in his forearms. It’s all fantasy I know, but there is something called suspension of disbelief.

The Thing # 6, Ron Wilson

The Thing cover was too much of a parody, in fact it is a parody. I made all his gangsta paraphernalia Fantastic Four and Thing themed because I thought it’d be funnier if it had some relevance.
