Choir Boy

August 17, 2011

What started as a simple lip synching exercise using sounds of Arnold Schwarzenegger devolped into an intense 12hour+ animation frenzy.

It made perfect sense to turn him into the Hulk especially since Arnie didn’t get the role in the 1970’s TV show because he was apparrently too short.

This seems unfair to me because it didn’t stop Elijah Wood getting the part of Frodo for being too tall. You can do a lot with in camera magic and how short is ‘short’? Arnie is at least 6ft 2”! Ridiculous.

If he had been in it I have no doubt it would have been bigger than Star Trek.

The title came last minute mostly because i’m not a big Superman fan (let’s face it he’s just an intergalactic stepchild) and I couldn’t quite figure who Arnie (as the hulk) would be saying that to.

The Dead Will Rise

June 20, 2010

On the 25th of June 2009 Michael Jackson died. Around the same time the Blackest Night event was going on in the DC comics universe.

All these dead superheroes were being resurrected left right and centre. I figured the only logical step for me was to combine the two.

Why not MJ? He was a hero to quite a lot of people in a way, if you just saw on the news the way people were flocking to pay their respects. Shrines had been set up all over central London, there was one I remembered in particular outside the Lyric Theatre in the West End where ‘Thriller’ the Michael Jackson musical was running.

I guess it was the obvious thing to use him in his Thriller outfit since the Black Lanterns are a bunch of zombies, well intergalactic zombies with superpowers that don’t die to be exact.

I started drawing on the 26th of June and had finished it by the 28th. I then forgot about it completely for just over half a year. I got round to inking and finishing it yesterday. I guess it serves as a sort of tribute to him. Better late than never, and in time for the 1st anniversary of his death.

Black Lantern Jackson…

RISE!
