He-Man PSA

May 21, 2012

We all have our views on He-Man and his questionable sexuality, it’s kind of hard to avoid. Especially when like me you have a mind that has been dragged through the gutter and you prefer it down there in the muck and grime. That and have you seen the way he dresses? That’s just asking for it.

It’s all good fun. To me he’s a bit of a do as I say not as I do kind of guy. I like to believe he’s just this super masculine dude that constantly crosses lines without even realising it. All the while he pervades this wholesome image when in reality he is a complete and utter deviant. Like most public figures that go on about purity or wholesomeness.

Anyway, this is the unpublished strip I did for Ballad Of. I better get used to this ‘thanks but no thanks’ business that seems to happen to me when I contribute art to things.

My style is clearly not twee enough.

I might do some more of these in future, they’re really fun and quite easy to poke fun at. The characters have a lot of potential, especially that Bow guy from She-Ra, he’s so gay.

You think this letter on my head stands for France?

April 16, 2012

Here’s my latest repanel, a great page from ultimates #12 by Mark Millar (writer) and Bryan Hitch (pencils) in which Captain is fighting an nazi alien or some such.

It’s one of my favourite comic book moments and just couldn’t resist so I went and made ‘ole Cap into a smug Lichtenstein-esque pop art icon:

He-Man Ready For Battle

March 30, 2012

About a month back I submitted a piece to Ballad Of after I recieved an email asking for submissions to their latest publication.

It sounded like fun to me so I made some He-man stuff. I was actually suprised at how much material I came up with once I got past the obvious she-man and questionable sexuality jokes. Still, those jokes are the best.

The piece I submitted is a little tamer visually, than this piece and I had intended to include Man at Arms fully geared up and feeling stupid, but I think it works just as well this way.

On the subject of my submission, I have no idea what will become of it other than the email I recieved saying that ‘We will file it and let you know the outcome when we go to print.
Judging from the work recently featured on the blog it doesn’t look like my strip fits in with their vibe. I could be wrong

I think i’ll give it half a month or so then just post it on here regardless.
